Doris Eldreth Obituary

Doris Ann Reeves Eldreth, age 70, of West Jefferson, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017 at her home.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 7:30pm at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elliott Osowitt officiating.

The family received friends on Wednesday, November 22, 2017; prior to the memorial service.

Born in Ashe County, on Sunday, April 20, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Wayne and Edna McNeill Reeves. Doris grew up in the Nathans Creek community, spent part of her teenage years in Pompano Beach, Florida, graduating from Pompano Beach High. After returning to Ashe County she went on to earn a degree from Wilkes Community College School of Cosmetology. After working, as a cosmetologist, she went on to work with Region D Council of Government and BROC Head Start. She took great pride in assisting the many children and families she worked with along the way. Later, many wonderful years were spent working in the pharmacy at Robert's Drug Store.

Doris was known for her kind heart and free spirit. She had a great love for helping others. She loved to entertain and spend time with family and friends. Anyone who knew Doris, knew she had a gift of conversation and was "never" at a loss for words. She dearly loved her Facebook friends and enjoyed talking with each one of them. Doris also loved shopping and decorating. When she found something she liked, she bought one in every color.

Her greatest joy was her "Syd-a-Roo". She thought Sydney "hung the moon".

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin Scott Miller and her beloved brother Wilbur Wayne (Bill) Reeves, Jr., a stepson Michael Dale Eldreth and her father-in-law Dale Eldreth.

She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Robert Lee Eldreth; one step-daughter, Melissa Eldreth; her mother-in-law, Chessie C. Eldreth of Roaring Fork; two sisters-in-law, Judy Reeves of West Jefferson and Linda Wilson and husband Louie of Roaring Fork; four special nieces, Robin Reeves of Jefferson, Teressa Sheets and husband Rob of Jefferson, Alisa Brown and husband Jimmy of West Jefferson, and Kim Harless and husband Steve also of West Jefferson. A special great-niece Sydney; three great-nephews, Josh Brown, Michael Pruitt and Caleb Harless; and one great-great grand niece Oaklyn Brown. Three step-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; and several other nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Ashe Really Cares, 204 Beaver Creek School Road, West Jefferson, NC 28694.
