Beverly Dunning Obituary

CHARLESTON - Beverly June Dunning, age 80 of Charleston, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center. Services honoring and celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (November 14) at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston with Reverend Bill Boaz officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Services at 6:45 p.m. to be conducted by the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary Paul McVey Post 1592. It is requested that memorials in her honor be made to the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary or to a Charity of the Donor's preference. Gifts may be left at the Visitation or Services or may be mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Beverly was born August 8, 1930 in Coles County, Illinois, a daughter of the late Orla and Bertha (Carter) Davis. She married Robert T. Dunning in 1947 in Kentucky and he preceded her in death in 1967. Beverly is survived by her children, Brenda Garza and husband Fernando of Michigan, Michael Dunning of Charleston, Robert Dunning and wife Debbie of Ashmore, Illinois, David Dunning and wife Dixie of Charleston; ten grandchildren, Lisa Bowlin of Charleston, Robin Murdock of Columbus, Ohio, Kandi Cassiday of Wisconsin, Rebecca Austin and husband Bruce of Windsor, Illinois, Mandy Lemmon and husband Mike of Ashmore, D. Preston Dunning and wife Angie, Nick Dunning, and Trisha Brant and husband Kevin all of Charleston, Greg Dunning and Mike Dunning; nine great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother, Jim Davis of Peoria, two half-brothers, Orla "Butch" Davis of Oakland, Illinois, Terry Joe Davis of Charleston; a half-sister Judy Sims and husband Charlie of Mattoon; and several nieces and nephews and their families. Bev was a long time employee of the Brown Shoe Company having worked at the Charleston factory for twenty-six years. She later became a caregiver in the Charleston area. She is a member of the Charleston VFW Ladies Auxiliary Paul McVey Post 1592 and was a member of the former Charleston Eagles Aerie 3100. Bev used to enjoy crafts and often created and made beaded jewelry. She was a collector of John Wayne memorabilia and was a serious BINGO player. Bev was an avid die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs and never wavered in her support of the team she dearly loved. She also never missed an opportunity to participate in a good conversation – Bev loved to talk and was the type of person who could talk with anyone. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed being a grandmother. Her family will dearly miss her and will cherish the many fond memories which they created together.
