Clinton Campbell Obituary

CHARLESTON, IL – Many lost a good friend this past weekend. Clinton Dean Campbell, age 72 and lovingly known as Clint to his family and many, many friends went to be with The Lord on Saturday (July 14, 2007) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston, will host Services honoring and celebrating his life today (Tuesday, July 17) at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Southards officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery in Charleston. Visitation was held Monday evening (July 16) at the funeral chapel from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Visitation closed with Masonic Services conducted by Charleston Masonic Lodge #35, A.F.&A.M. Clint was born October 5, 1934 in Charleston the son of Clarence S. and Stella Louise (Loving) Campbell. On January 31, 1951 he married Janie Swinford. She passed away on April 24, 1997. On October 24, 1998, he married Julia "Judy" Bough-Roberts. He is survived by Julia, his best friend and loving wife of eight plus years; two sons, Dan Campbell and his wife Wendy of Caladonia, Illinois and Kenny Campbell and his wife Carolyn of Charleston; one daughter, Vicki Wade and her husband Chuck of Lerna; one stepson, Michael Britt Cowan and his wife Rosetta of Charleston; six grandchildren, Jacob Campbell of Caladonia, Brian Wade and his wife Tiffany of Champaign, Illinois, Eric Wade and his wife Tonya of Burlington, Iowa, Amanda Reinhard and her husband Jason of Charleston, Nick Campbell of Collinsville, Illinois and Chris Campbell of Edwardsville, Illinois; two step grandchildren, Nathan Cowan and Nichole Cowan, both of Charleston; three great grandchildren; his mother; two brothers, Clem "Buddy" Campbell and his wife Kay of West Chicago, Illinois and Robert Campbell and his wife Judy of Reno, Nevada; two sisters, Sandra Hemminghouse of Springfield and Marsha Petty and her husband Dan of Lincoln, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his father. Clint dearly loved Charleston – it was his home. For the past twenty-six years he was a self-employed real estate investor, providing housing and commercial units to tenants throughout the Charleston community. He, along with his beloved "Lady" (a black Labrador Retriever) who his family jokingly says served as his Chief Executive Officer, retired earlier this year. Clint was a member of Charleston Masonic Lodge #35, A.F.&A.M., The Corn Belt Shrine Club and its Cycle Patrol, Charleston Moose Lodge #1388, Eagles Ambraw Aerie #3100 of Charleston and the Charleston Country Club. Clint's upbeat personality was contagious – if you were one of the many who knew him, you couldn't help but feel good after being in his presence, his kindness touched everyone he met and his "almost never quit" work ethic was instrumental in his professional success. Clint did have hobbies, too -- he played "early morning" golf with Julia, enjoyed watching baseball and football and was a tournament bass fisherman. In lieu of flowers, Clint's loving family requests that Memorials in his honor be made to the St. Louis Shriners Hospital. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920.

To the family of Clinton Campbell, Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers at this time. I remember Clint being my Grandparent's next door neighbor many years ago. Any time I saw Clint he always had a smile on his face and something nice to say. Clint was one to never know a stranger.

Ken & Vicky
You have been friends for a long time. We grew up together and your dad was basicly a second dad to me when I was young. Been a while but I belive Ken and I met in the first grade and were pretty much buddies from then on. I feel like I was friends with Vicky also. Of corse with time we grew and now have familys and responsabilitys that keep us busy. But I still have the memories of when we were kids playing together. I've always thought of Ken as my best friend. I just want you to know how much I cared about your Dad. He was a good man and I will miss him. Ken you were there for me when I lost my Dad and I'm here for you if you want, or need anything. Vicky You too. But as I said we all have familys of our own now and they are there for support. Sometimes though we need to draw on the memories and just forget our pain even for a bit so we can gain the strength to go on. I Love you guys!

Dear Kenny and Carolyn, We were so sorry to read of your dads passing. We have known him most our lives and of course went to school with him. We have moved to S.D.California in Dec.'05 to live near our son. Bill was in a bad way with his health at that time. He has since recovered with the help of a miracle surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, at this sad time. Clint was a very good man, and he did a lot for Charleston, and the square. I miss Charleston very much, and read the on line paper daily. Blessings, Jackie and Bill Clark

I have known Clint since we were childen, and usually sat beside him in class if teacher used alphabetical order. My husband worked with him at one time. We both agree, anytime you ran into him, and anywhere, you left the meeting with a smile on your face. Blessings to his family, they were blessed with their time with him. We feel blessed to have known him.

Julia,
I was so surprised and shocked at the passing of your beloved Clint. I hope you know that if there is anything ever you need me to do just please let me know and I will do it. Clint was a very special person and I truely believed that he would have given his right arm if it could be of help to anyone that he knew. I also believe that he was an angel sent down to help everyone. I will miss him like crazy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
