David Allison Obituary

OAKLAND - David E. Allison, age 71, of Oakland passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side at 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, September 14, 2010. He was born September 16, 1938 in Oakland, Illinois to Wilson and Janice (Hanner) Allison. He graduated from Young America High School in 1956. He married Martha Skinner on August 7, 1957 in Newman Illinois. Mr. Allison moved back to Oakland in 1994, after having worked for thirty years at Caterpillar in Aurora, IL, where he was a supervisor on assembly for many years to a great group of men. He loved his job and the people he worked with. He was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, the Newman Masonic Lodge 369, and served as a past member of the Oakland Lion's Club and Oakland City Council. He and his wife were very involved with the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, where they helped to raise money for and worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, giving thousands of children with life-threatening medical conditions the opportunity to live out a dream. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Martha Allison of Oakland, IL; a daughter, JoAnn (Doug) Robinson of Urbana, IL; a sister, Shirley Tyler of Mattoon, IL; a brother, Walter Allison of Catlin, IL; three grandchildren, BJ, John and Rich; and three-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Wesley Allison. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at Krabel Funeral Home in Oakland from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Newman Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Oakland Library, Oakland Senior Center or Lincolnland Hospice in care of the funeral home.
