Sorry to hear of Dr. Maurer's passing and sending condolences to his children and grandchildren. I started the HA program at EIU just after his retirement, but Dr. Maurer was frequently present in the building and continued to provide guidance to students. He always showed up with two things- a wide smile and a stack of photocopies of job and internship postings. Both of these were so greatly appreciated by aspiring and sometimes frazzled grad students! He always did the same at the annual HA symposium and so many HA students got their start in the field through one of those postings. I also had several opportunities in 1995-96 to drive he and Joyce to the airport in STL as they set out on their grand adventures. It was a pleasure to hear their stories and insights of faraway places- true lifelong learners.
