CHARLESTON - Jackie Lee (Alderson) Deters passed away on July 4, 2025, at her home in Charleston, Illinois.
A memorial service in her honor will be held at a later date. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, 1200 Wabash Avenue, Mattoon, IL 61938 is in charge of services.
Jackie was born on September 17, 1952, in Mattoon, IL to the late Leon "Jack" and Mary Lee (Parrott) Alderson. She married Vernon W. Deters on October 8, 1971, in Mattoon, IL. They shared 53 beautiful years of marriage.
Jackie is survived by her devoted husband; two children, Julie L. Bennett and her husband John of Ashmore, Illinois, and Shane A. Deters and his wife Donna of Charleston, Illinois. She was a proud grandmother to Zak Burton and his wife Marissa of Charleston, LeAndra Roberts and her husband Austin of Charleston, Ronnie Webb and his wife Kierra of Charleston, and Gabe Deters of Charleston.
Jackie took great delight in her growing family, especially her five cherished great-grandchildren: Tommy Burton, Corbin Slaymaker, Westyn Roberts, and twin girls Elliana and Alana Roberts, born on July 3, 2025. In her final days, she was filled with joy upon seeing their first photos, a tender moment that remains a treasured memory for all who loved her.
Other survivors include her brother, Robert W. Alderson of Atmore, AL; a brother-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
Her professional life was marked by dedication and service, as she worked at Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL, in Workforce Development, where she touched many lives through her commitment to education and development. Jackie's work ethic and passion for helping others were evident to all who knew her. Her career began at Young's Radiator in Mattoon, IL, a place that held special significance as it was where she met Vernon, the love of her life.
Beyond her family, Jackie had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed reading, and her hands were rarely idle as she crafted beautiful quilts. Her garden was nicely kept with vibrant flowers and bountiful vegetables that she preserved through canning. Jackie's home was a welcoming place where friends and family gathered.
As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Jackie will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will forever resonate in the memories and stories shared by those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jackie's memory to the Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 N Co Rd 1120E, Charleston, IL 61920, a cause close to her heart and a place she supported dearly.
