Jerry Wayne Shafer

Aug. 12, 1937 - March 19, 2024

ORLANDO, Florida - Jerry Wayne Shafer, 86, of Orlando, FL, went home to be with his Lord March 19, 2024, at the hospital in Orlando, FL.

Jerry was born August 12, 1937, in Mattoon, IL, to Paul and Martha Shafer. A 1956 graduate of Mattoon High School and graduate of Eastern Illinois University. At an early age his interest in cars started to grow and he helped build "rails" and redo classic cars.

He worked at "Shafer's Wholesale" and said to many he never learned anything. Over the years he taught at the High School in Kankakee, IL, sold text books, worked for Sears an Wards. When he moved to Florida he worked for Disney.

He enjoyed travel, and going to the beach, being with friends an family.

Surviving are his brothers: John (Theo) Shafer, Thomas (Marta) Shafer; his niece, Peggy (Phil) Kepp; nephew, David (Mary Ellen) Wetzel, John Paul (Teri) Shafer, Tammy (Rick) Shafer, Jamey (Andrea) Shafer and Andrew (Cresta) Shafer; great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul and Martha Shafer; his sister, Mary Wetzel; and husband, Leroy Wetzel.
