MATTOON - Joyce Fraembs, age 82, of Mattoon passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Memorial services honoring her life will take place at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Dickinson officiating. Burial will follow at Dodge Grove Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Joyce was born on July 11, 1942 in Jessieville, Arkansas the daughter of Hora Edward Shaw and Adell Shaw. She married Darrell Fraembs on December 20, 1961. He preceded her in death on June 25, 2000.
Survivors include her children, Donald (Maricela) Fraembs of Fontana, CA, David (Danett) Fraembs of Canyon Lake, TX, Deborah Fraembs of Naperville, IL and Patricia (Manny) Castro of Locust Grove, GA; sister Carolyn Pettit; 9 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; brother, 3 sisters; grandchild, and 2 nephews.
She was deeply cherished by her great nieces Salena (Kaya & Peyton) & Autumn (Lilly) who were like daughters to her. Their bond was a source of immense joy and love in her life, and she cared for them with the same warmth and devotion that she gave to her family. She also shared time with her longtime friend, Don.
Joyce was a loving wife, mother, auntie and grandma to many. Her faith and love of God was paramount in her life and she shared that message with everyone she would meet. Her favorite pastimes were collecting rocks from around the US and landscaping her garden with them, spending time with family, traveling and enjoying card games like Demon, Uno and Skip-Bo. For over 30 years she spent caring for her patients at Douglas Living Center.
