L. Vanderhoof Obituary

MATTOON -- L. Dee Vanderhoof, age 84, of Mattoon, passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2005, at his residence surrounded by family. Graveside services with military rites by the Teutopolis American Legion Post #924 will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15th, 2005, at the Jewett Cemetery. The Reverend Robert C. Clark will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Schilling Funeral Home. L. Dee was born May 5, 1920, in Jewett, Illinois, the son of Golden and Alta (Dee) Vanderhoof. He married his sweetheart, Helen L. Hallett, on February 24, 1941. She passed away March 15, 2000. Survivors include his two daughters, Suzanne Davidson and husband Robert and Jan Storm and husband Perley, all of Mattoon; three grandchildren, Melissa Scott and husband Andrew of Stonington, Illinois, Bradley Storm and Jennifer Storm, both of Mattoon; and two great-grandchildren, Shawna and Amanda, both of Stonington. Mr. Vanderhoof was retired as an inspector with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and received the Purple Heart for his war time service. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Effingham and was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 4325 and the Mattoon Eagles Club. He was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks #495. L. Dee was a member of the Central Community Church in Mattoon. Since his retirement he loved spending his winters at his home in Tucson, Arizona. Family was very important to him and he was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
