March 14, 1956 - October 5, 2025
Larry Max Ashmore, age 69, of Mattoon, passed away on October 5, 2025 at his residence.
Memorial services honoring his life will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Larry and Cathy's residence. Burial will take place at a later date at Bethel Cemetery. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Larry was born on March 14, 1956 in Charleston, Illinois, the son of Clinton Max and Doris Jann (Tipton) Ashmore. He married Cathy Hildreth on May 31, 1985.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cathy Ashmore of Mattoon, Ill.; mother, Doris Ashmore of Charleston, Ill.; sister, Lynn (Doug) McQueen of Oakland, Ill.; niece, Carie (Kevin) Ward of Dyersburg, Tenn.; nephew, Clinton (Haley) McQueen of Oakland, Ill.; niece, Cara (James) Long of Westfield, Ind.; several additional great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Cheryl (Jim) Turner of Dyersburg, Tenn.; and cousins, Richard J. (Jean Ann) Strong of Mattoon, Ill.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents and father; in-laws, William E. and Elsie Hildreth; and brother-in-law, William A. Hildreth; aunt and uncle, Bobbie and William Richter.
In his younger years, Larry enjoyed drag racing, racing motorcycles and modified midget cars and flying powered parachutes. He also enjoyed watching sports. He was a loyal Cardinals, Bears, Illini and NASCAR fan and had a strong competitive spirit. Larry will be remembered for his kindness and down-to-earth nature. Some of his best memories were made boating with his wife on Lake Shelbyville with family and friends. For many years, Larry and Cathy hosted the Hildreth family reunion at their family home every three years. Larry and Cathy enjoyed 40 years of marriage. They also uniquely shared the same birthday, two years apart. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations in his honor may be given to the Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 N. Co. Rd. 1120E, Charleston, Ill. 61920.
