Larry Butler Obituary

CHARLESTON - Larry Andrew Butler, age 61 of Charleston, passed away on Sunday (July 19, 2009) at his home surrounded by his loving family. Services celebrating and honoring his life will be held at 6:00 p.m. this evening (Tuesday, July 21) at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Scott Sims officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the Services. In keeping with Larry's wishes, his cremated remains will be scattered at a later date. Larry's family requests that memorial gifts in his honor be made to the Coles County Animal Shelter or Lincolnland Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. Gifts may be left on the Memorial Table at the Visitation or Services or mailed to Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive, Charleston, IL 61920. Larry was born in Charleston, Illinois the son of Carl F. "Speed" and Naomi (Keigley) Butler. He married Jeanette Woolen in Charleston on February 27, 1992. In addition to Jeanette he is survived by his mother, Naomi Butler of Charleston; his 100 year old grandmother, Thelma Keigley of Mattoon; one sister Christie Jones and her husband Wesley of Charleston; three nephews, Sean Holladay of Charleston, Joshua Jones of Nashville, Tennessee and Clay Doemelt of Arcola, Illinois; one great niece, Taylor Holladay of Charleston; several aunts, uncles, cousins, two brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law and their families; and his K9 companion, Holly. He was preceded in death his father; two grandfathers, Dale Keigley and Elza Butler; one grandmother, Henrietta McKinney; and his loving K9 companion, Buddy. Larry enjoyed life – he was an avid Braves baseball fan from the Boston & Milwaukee to the Atlanta era, he enjoyed fishing, cheering for Eastern Illinois University and Illini football and basketball and the Dallas Cowboys, a team that won his loyalty when Tony Romo became their quarterback. He loved music of all types, especially rock 'n roll. He also has been known to spend "hours on end" playing video games with his nephews and cousins. Of all his interests and passions, however, Larry will be lovingly remembered as his family being the center piece of his life – his loyalty to family and his wonderful sense of humor will long be cherished.
