David Smith Obituary
David L. Smith passed away peacefully on January 12, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on January 24, 1942, David's life was marked by his robust enthusiasm for the outdoors, his dedication to his work, and the deep love he had for his family.
An avid bird hunter, David spent many a dawn in the quiet company of nature, with the sounds of the waking world as the soundtrack to his pursuits. His love for the outdoors extended to the water, where he could often be found with a fishing rod in hand, patiently awaiting the day's catch.
For his entire adult life, David was a hardworking and skilled construction worker, a career that spoke to his strength and craftsmanship. His hands built and repaired, creating a legacy of sturdy foundations and structures that stand as a testament to his life's work.
A man of faith, David was a devoted member of the Paragould Christian Church, where he found a community of like-minded individuals who shared his commitment to service and worship. His faith was a guiding light throughout his life, providing comfort and purpose.
David's joy was multiplied when watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was their biggest fan, present at countless games, cheering and celebrating every victory and offering encouragement in every challenge. His presence on the sidelines will be deeply missed.
A regular at local coffee shops, David enjoyed the camaraderie and conversation found in these daily gatherings. Over cups of coffee, friendships were deepened, and laughter was shared.
David's passion for animals was evident in his care for his horses and mules, which he had for many years.
David was preceded in death by his parents, M. A. and Edith Smith; wife, Janice Smith; brothers, Junior Smith, Curt Smith, Bob Smith, Russell Smith, Donald Ray Smith; son, Kent Smith; and daughter-in-law, Kim Smith.
Survivors include his son, David Keith Smith; daughter, Kristi Cole (Scott); sisters, Wilma Barr, Loretta Fuller, Carolyn Rowland; grandchildren, Kobi Rosten (Nick), Sean Smith, Kiana Cate (Boyce), Gage Cole, Kourtney Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Baylor Rosten, Navie Smith, Koley Cate, Ella Rosten; and was known as "Uncle Duck" to numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, January 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Duane Dutka and Sean Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Nick Rosten, Boyce Cates, Darrell Smith, Kenny Smith, Kerry Don Smith, and Kelly Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Jerry Hyde, Steve Baldwin, Alan Martin, Chad Prince, Phillip Gordon, Carroll Laird, Ray Gibson, and the coffee shop crew will serve as honorary pallbearers.
