Fred Sitz Obituary

Fred L. Sitz, 93, of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Born in Hardy, Arkansas, on February 24, 1932 to Homer and Pearl Sitz, Fred graduated from Hardy High School in 1949, where he served as FFA President. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Arkansas State College in 1957. Fred proudly joined the U.S Air Force in 1951 and served his country during the Korean War (3 years) and retired from the Air Force Reserves after 23 years of service, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant with the 319th Interceptor Squadron. In 1955, Fred married the love of his life, Betty Walker. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Nettleton United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and church treasurer. Fred dedicated 43 years to Colson Caster, where he worked as Controller and Vice President of Finance. His career took him around the globe, establishing companies for the Marmon Group. He was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club and was known for his integrity, tireless work ethic, and generous spirit. Fred's warm smile, firm handshake, and welcoming hugs made everyone feel like a friend. In retirement, Fred enjoyed researching his family's genealogy. After Betty's passing, he moved to St. Bernards Village and later to St. Bernards Villa Assisted Living and Memory Care, where he remained active and especially excelled at Baggo and Wii Bowling. Fred is survived by his children: Rick (Debra) Sitz, Bruce (Lynda) Sitz, and Lynn (Brad) Howerton, all of Jonesboro; his sister, Norma Donahoe of Mt. Vernon, Texas; sister-in-law, Sue Sitz of Collierville, Tennessee; grandchildren: Jacob (Jenni) Sitz, Jackson (Kaitlyn) Sitz, and Mary Howerton; great-grandchildren: Oakley and Walker Sitz; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, his parents Homer and Pearl Sitz, his brother Jack Sitz, and sister Wanda Keller Sellers. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel from 12-1 PM. A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:30 pm the same day in Jonesboro Memorial Park with Lindell Pratt officiating. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Joyce Anderson for her companionship at The Village, and to Susan Harris and Dianne Phelps for their devoted care at the Villa. Deep gratitude also goes to Dr. Randall Carlton, the nurses and CNAs at St. Bernards Villa, and the compassionate staff at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Aaron Keller, John Keller, Jackson Sitz, Jake Sitz, Trent Keller, and Kelsey Keller. Honorary Pallbearers are Retired Colson Caster employees and members of Nettleton United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Northeast Arkansas Humane Society, 6111 E Highland Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72401, Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 1148 E Matthews Ave, Jonesboro, AR 72401 or Angel Embrace Doll Therapy Program, 2395 Scattered Oak Drive, Wentzville, MO 63385.
