Freda Smith Obituary

Freda May Smith, 81, of Pocahontas passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born July 5, 1944 in Walnut Ridge to the late Denny Vandergriff and Dorothy Blackshear Tribble. In 1961 she was married to James "Jimmy" Charles Smith. She was an excellent seamstress, found great joy in caring for her grandchildren, and enjoyed dressing up and serving chili at Halloween. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Debbie Crawford; and brothers, Don Vandergriff, Ricky Tribble, Larry Tribble, Steven Tribble, and Jim Tribble. Freda is survived by her husband, Jimmy Smith; son, Steve (Tammy) Smith of Pocahontas; grandchildren, Londyn (Jesse) Paslay of Jonesboro, Brantley Smith and girlfriend Allee of Pocahontas, and Kynnedi Smith of Pocahontas; sisters, Cindy Tribble of Walnut Ridge, Shirley (Carl) Snyder of Pocahontas, and Vickie Swann of Gadsden, TN; brother, Leon (Heather) Vandergriff of Randolph County; special caretaker, Jane Miles; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 1-3 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service following at 3 PM with Joshua Dement officiating.
