Michael Lynn Montgomery, 56, of Jonesboro, passed from this life on Monday, October 6, 2025. He was born on June 5, 1969, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Denis and Carolyn Montgomery.
Michael proudly served in the Army Reserve during Desert Storm. He was a member of Bono Church of Christ and a 1987 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School. He served as the Regional Vice President of Crop Insurance over Arkansas and Tennessee for Farm Credit.
A dedicated martial artist, Michael earned his 3rd-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do and practiced various disciplines including boxing and Jiu Jitsu. He trained at ATF Dojo in Walnut Ridge, where he shared his passion and discipline with others.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He considered himself a true “river rat,” happiest when casting a line on the river. Known for his kind heart, Michael was always willing to lend a helping hand and instilled those same values in his daughters.
An athlete and coach, he enjoyed spending time on the softball field with his daughters, teaching them lessons that extended far beyond the game. Music was also a major part of his life—he could play guitar, bass, and drums, and loved to sing. Some of his most cherished memories were singing karaoke with his daughters, which is how they spent this year’s Father’s Day. Michael cited this as his favorite Father’s Day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Denis Montgomery.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Shania Montgomery; daughters, Macy Montgomery of Jonesboro and Sydney Montgomery of Little Rock; his mother, Carolyn Montgomery; brothers, David Montgomery (Terrie) of Poplar Bluff and Brian Montgomery (Mona) of New Haven, Missouri; and sister, Kim Barrentine (William) of Nixa, Missouri. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5–8 p.m. at Bono Church of Christ. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Bono Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be David Montgomery, Brian Montgomery, William Barrentine, Justin Welch, Brett Welch, and Patrick Welch. Honorary pallbearers include Shane Proffer, Bill Weeks, Justin Montgomery, and Shane Miller.
