JONESBORO - Anita Carol Covington (McFarlin), 86, passed away Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.
She was born March 30, 1938, in Jonesboro to the late Winston and Helen McFarlin Covington. She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1956. Anita is remembered by many Jonesboro residents for her retail business "Anita's Specialty Shop". She enjoyed golfing with friends and was a longtime member of the Jonesboro Country Club, the Ladies Golf Association, and the Women's Philanthropic Educational Organization. Other hobbies included gardening, bridge club, and enjoying game shows and the golf channel while at home. Her favorite activities were taking care of her family and enjoying time with her children and grandchildren. She was the epitome of a grandmother in every way.
Faith and family were very important to Anita. She was an active member of First Christian Church where she taught Sunday School for many years with her husband Skip.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Copenhaver (Harold); grandchildren, Lauren Nunnally, Austin Copenhaver (Hannah Beth) and Myles Copenhaver all of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, Landry Nunnally, Taytem Nunnally, Ada Copenhaver, Benjamin Copenhaver, Heidi Copenhaver and several cousins and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Robert Lee "Skip" Covington, by a son, Robert Lee Covington Jr. and a sister, Helen Diane Noah.
A celebration of her life will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, at First Christian Church with Reverend Don Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church, Monday.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Harold Copenhaver, Myles Copenhaver, Austin Copenhaver, David Hurley, Tim Covington, Kyle Covington and Clay Covington and as honorary pallbearers, Landry Nunnally, Benjamin Copenhaver, and the members of the Ladies Golf Association.
Lasting memorials may be sent to the First Christian Church or Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.
