LITTLE ROCK - It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bobbye Hydrick Garner Floyd, who departed this life on Dec. 9, 2025, in Little Rock. Bobbye Jean Hydrick was born in Memphis, to Robert Flynn and Edith Holcomb Hydrick, on July 14, 1936. She spent her early years living near her father's Red and White Store outside Parkin, Ark., in the Togo Community before her father purchased a farm at the end of World War II. She did many things, but working as a farm girl was not one of them. Although she did learn to drive in an old army jeep in the alfalfa field.
Bobbye graduated from Parkin High School, where she was on the homecoming court and Homecoming Queen in her senior year. She managed the girls' basketball team and earned the nickname of "lightning" from Coach Norris for her slowness.
Bobbye was a teacher, mother, and grandmother. She attended Memphis State University, now, University of Memphis, before transferring to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She graduated from ASU with a degree in English and was certified to teach secondary education. She taught junior high, senior high, adult education, and alternative school, and was an adjunct professor at Pulaski Technical College. She held a lifetime certification in the State of Arkansas. She was a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center for over 10 years.
In 1958, she married James Richard Garner and had two children, Janet Lynn Garner and James Hydrick Garner. She lived in Wynne, where she played pitch and bridge. She was involved with the Wynne Band Booster and served as president of that organization. She was also a Cub Scout den mother.
In 1982, she moved from Wynne to Jonesboro, where she met and married Joseph Parker Floyd. She and Joe were active in the arts community, and she also served on the Arkansas Sesquicentennial Committee for Craighead County before moving to Little Rock. She enjoyed traveling, entertaining, and being entertained. Her mother was a great cook, but Bobbye preferred eating out to preparing meals herself. Lunch or an early dinner with her granddaughters and friends was one of her favorite activities. After Joe's death, she was active in Faith United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school and conducted bible study groups. She also served on Good Shepherd's Resident Council.
She was blessed with four granddaughters: Jett, Greylin, Reagan, and Audrey, and became Baboo. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and hearing about what was happening in their lives.
Bobbye was predeceased by her parents, aunts, and uncles, and both her husbands. She was also predeceased by her blind cocker spaniel, Riley, whom she always referred to as Little Rowdy, even though he weighed over forty pounds.
She is survived by her two children, Janet Garner Baugher (Mike) and Jim H. Garner; her four granddaughters, Jett Pieroni (John David); her first great-granddaughter, Garner Mae Pieroni; Greylin Garner, Reagan Garner Johnson (Paul), and Audrey Garner; her stepson, Joe Floyd, and his sister, Teri Floyd Wright.
There will be a private burial. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Bobbye Floyd's life on Jan. 7, 2026, beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Faith United Methodist Church, 9820 W. Markham St., Little Rock, Ark., 72205. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity honoring her commitment to education, Hospice Home Care, or Faith United Methodist Church. Bobbye was blessed with many friends over the years.
The family would like to extend their thanks and love to Margaret Hatchett, Sandra Tindell, and Darla Wise for their love and support of us and our mother. Though Bobbye is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the memories we share.
