ROSSVILLE, Tenn. - Carolyn H. Merritt, 81, of Rossville, Tenn., passed from this life Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Pine Meadows Healthcare Center in Bolivar, Tenn., where she was currently recouping from a fall injury.
Born in Luxora, Carolyn was a graduate of Luxora High School and moved to Memphis where she lived for many years. Carolyn was a long-time office administrator for Super D Drugs central offices in Memphis.
Following retirement, Carolyn and her husband William Dwayne Merritt Sr. moved to Cherokee Village where they resided on Lake Omaha and enjoyed Ozarks living for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village where she served as church librarian and AWANA teacher.
Carolyn and Dwayne moved back to Memphis in 2020 to be closer to family.
Carolyn was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family especially attending the grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her son, William Dwayne Merritt Jr., two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her husband, William Dwayne Merritt Sr. of Rossville; her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Kenny Owsley of Rossville; her daughter-in-law, Marie Merritt of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and John Newell of Osceola; five grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Meagan Bennett, Trey Johnson, Ryan Merritt and Casey Merritt; and two great-grandchildren, Asher Bennett and Gunner Bennett.
Graveside funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Larry White officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at Emerson Funeral Home.
