JONESBORO - Glenda "Nikki" Gilbert, 72, of Jonesboro passed away Sept. 29, 2021, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
She was born Oct. 7, 1948, in Wilson County, N.C.
She married Charles "Chuck" Gilbert on Oct. 11, 1968, in Alexander, Va., after meeting at Gunston Baptist Church in Lorton, Va. They shared 53 years of marriage and raised two children in Jonesboro.
She spent her life as a homemaker, a very talented seamstress, creating sewing techniques she shared with many students through teaching classes.
She was a very active member of Nettleton Baptist Church, serving any time she saw a need, and loved being part of the children's ministry.
She served as a CASA volunteer, enjoyed many creative hobbies and camping trips. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband; son, Deven (Sandie) Gilbert of Mountain Home; daughter, Ashley (JC) York of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Hillary Coleman, Tyler Griffin, Brittany Gilbert, Breanna Glasgow, Ashton Gilbert, Olivia Allen, Hannah York, Claire York, Rachel York and Ian York; great-grandchildren, Jack Radcliff, Izzy Coleman, Kaiden Davis, Eastyn Gilbert, Luke Coleman and Brayleigh Coleman; brothers, Kenny Nicholson of Bladen, N.C., and Ronnie Nicholson of Fredericksburg, Va., and sisters, Carolyn "Boots" (Jim) Meeks of Woodbridge, Va., and Wanda Hagler of Independence, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Carolyn Nicholson, two sisters, four brothers and her grandson, Spencer Gilbert.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Emerson Funeral Home. The funeral service will immediately follow with Brother Stan Ballard and Brother Brady Canright officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Smith, Wendell Gilbert, Kenneth Smith, John Carman, Kevin Hoke and Paul Spurlock.
