JONESBORO - Herman Arnold Tinsley, 91, of Jonesboro passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House with loving family and friends at his bedside.
He was born Dec. 4, 1930, in Zent, to the late Charley and Carrie Tinsley.
Herman was a member of Brookland church of Christ. He owned and operated Tinsley Saw Mill for over 65 years.
Herman, his family and his employees, cleared land, pulled stumps, and built ponds and watersheds with his bulldozers, tractors and dirt buggies.
He was a cattle and hog farmer. Herman, his family and employees also custom baled hay, putting in barn lofts, and raised corn, soybeans and cotton.
"No weeds on his farm," Herman, his family, and employees pulled them by hand. His cattle were always fatter in the long harsh winters than during the summers.
Everything he owned was fat.
Herman and Ermal always had plenty for anyone – anyone welcome into their home.
In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Ermal Tinsley; oldest daughter, Charlotte Grant; a brother, Donnie Tinsley; three sisters, Betty Tinsley, Frances Dobson, and Mittie Stallings; a great-grandson, Tristan Taylor; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his daughter, Marian Tinsley of Jonesboro; son-in-law, Eric Grant of Jonesboro; two grandsons, Shannon (Jessica) Roberson of Jonesboro and Shaun (Carey) Roberson of Bryant; a granddaughter, Samantha (Trey) Coffey of Newport; great-grandsons, Dylan (Samantha) Ferrell, Jordan Ferrell and Aidan Roberson, all of Jonesboro, Coen Roberson of Bryant and Grant Taylor of Newport; great-granddaughter, Cali Roberson of Bryant; a sister, Gretchen Pruitt of Jonesboro; two brothers, Harold and Donald Tinsley, both of Jonesboro; a sister-in-law, Lavena Burton of Laverne, Calif.; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Philadelphia Cemetery with Brother Terry Joe Kee officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home prior to the graveside service.
