James Eyres

1942 - 2022

JONESBORO - James Wells Eyres, 79, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at St. Bernards Medical Center.

He was born April 5, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Roderick and Doris Eyres.

James graduated from Union Consolidated High School in 1961, attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1966 with a degree in dairy science.

After college, he joined the Iowa Army Reserves, serving as a medic.

He was raised on Ashlane Dairy Farm in Plymouth County, Iowa, and later managed this Century Family Farm. Jim was awarded the Iowa Farm Bureau outstanding young member award in 1972.

Once his family moved to Arkansas in the mid-1980s, he had the privilege of being a feed salesman where he enjoyed meeting and talking with other farmers.

Prior to retirement, Jim was the owner of Eyres Trucking based in Donnellson, Iowa. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, active in the Lions Club International, Nomads UMC, United Methodist Men, and a red kettle bell ringer for the Salvation Army where he brought joy to all with his animated musical hats at Christmas time.

Jim was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan and football season ticket holder. He enjoyed spending time traveling and snowbirding at Fig Tree RV Resort in Harlingen, Texas.

His favorite trip was with Shirley in the RV through Alaska.

And most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roderick Eyres and Doris Wells Eyres Zimmerman, and a sister, Mary Ann Eyres.

Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Mae Hiller Eyres; daughters, Rosina (Scott) Flemon of Jonesboro; Ruth (Tammy Browne) Eyres of Sherwood and Rita Eyres of Little Rock; son, Roderick Eyres of Washington, Ill.; grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler and Logan Flemon and Rashon, Isaac, Mirande and Annisa Eyres; sister, Christina (Jeff) Sales of Waterloo, Iowa; and nieces and nephews, Jennie Sales, Matt Sales, Marsha Hiller, David Hiller, Teresa Spavin, Amber Rustad, Russ Lippincott and Eric Hiller.

A memorial praise service will be held in Jonesboro at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church at a later date. Burial will be at Union Township Cemetery in LeMars, Iowa.
