FORT WORTH, Texas - Mary Joyce Burton Spradlin, 60, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2022, in Fort Worth, Texas, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Jan. 11, 1962, in Newport, to parents Lloyd Mitchell Burton and Vivian L. Simmons Burton. She was raised on the family farm in Swifton and was a 1980 graduate of Swifton High School.
Mary was a talented pianist and vocalist and was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She received her associate's degree in music from Williams Baptist College and her bachelor's degree in vocal performance from Arkansas State University.
She directed church choirs in many churches through the years, both adult and youth, and especially enjoyed working in the children's ministry.
She was a passionate cook and could often be found in the kitchen trying new recipes, using her family as official taste testers.
Family heritage was important to her and she spent her free time conducting genealogy research.
Her true joy, however, came from spending every available moment she had with her granddaughters, whom she adored.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, paternal grandparents, H.L. and Amanda E. Rice Burton, maternal grandparents, Christopher C. Simmons II and Emma L. Hopkins Simmons, and two brothers-in-law, William C. Herring and Bruce Berry.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Greg Spradlin of Weatherford, Texas; two sons, Jason Spradlin (Kristen) and Jeff Spradlin of Weatherford; two granddaughters, Emma Carole Spradlin and Evelyn Faye Spradlin of Weatherford; sisters, Margaret Berry of Swifton and Linda Moore (Gary) of Texarkana, Texas; one brother, Michael Burton (Vickie) of Swifton; father-in-law, Ken Spradlin, brothers-in-law, Jody Spradlin (Neva), Lance Cossey and Chet Spradlin, and mother-in-law, Carolyn Knopp (Jimmie), all of Conway; and a number of nieces and nephews.
