Velda Mann Obituary

JONESBORO - Velda Alice Mann, a pillar of faith and love in her community, passed away peacefully on Sept. 16, 2025, at Ridgecrest Health and Rehab Center. Born on Nov. 2, 1928, in the Hackberry Community, Velda spent her 96 years enriching the lives of those around her with her kindness and dedication to service.

Velda (Sis) was the cherished daughter of the late Thomas and Vertie Collier and the beloved wife of the late Melvin Duane Mann Jr. Her life was marked by the love she shared with her family, including her son Melvin Mann III; daughters, Patricia Letson, Linda (Bob) Forrest, and Brenda (Alan) Vangilder; and her sister Lanna Fay Collier. Velda was a guiding light to her grandchildren, Beth Beeler, Tina Jackson (Keith), Melanie Vinson (Larry), Misty Riley (Kenny), Matthew Mann (Alison), Tiffany Smith (Chandler), Jason Vangilder (Beth McCartney), Daniel Vangilder (Whitney), Robert Forrest (Jennifer), and Heather Moore (Dane). She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Andrea Joy Forrest; son-in-law Barry Letson; two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and five sisters and two brothers.

Velda's professional life was dedicated to serving others. She spent many years at the Ely and Walker Shirt Factory and later at the Home for the Golden Years. Her work ethic and caring nature left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Velda's commitment to her community was further demonstrated through her involvement with the AMMC Ladies Auxiliary, where she volunteered over 700 hours between 2007 and 2016. A devout Christian, Velda was a cornerstone of the 1st Assembly of God Church for over 70 years. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and was known as an avid prayer warrior. Her deep faith was evident in every aspect of her life and inspired those around her to live with purpose and grace. Velda's interests extended beyond her religious devotion. She enjoyed baking and was known for her no-bake cookies that were loved by many. Her cooking was just one of the many ways she expressed her love and care for her family and friends.

Velda's journey on earth may have come to an end, but her spirit remains a beacon of light for her family and the many lives she touched. Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to live with the same compassion and dedication that she embodied.

Friends and family are invited to participate in celebrating Velda's life. Service will be held at Mitchell Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 19, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Tony Cherry. Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. Velda will be laid to rest in Shiloh Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Luke Beeler, Matthew Mann, Kenny Riley, Jason Vangilder, Daniel Vangilder, and Robert Forrest.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northwest Church, 1605 Fairview Road, Paragould, Ark. 72450.
