William Eddington Obituary

JONESBORO - William Rolland Eddington passed away the morning of Sept. 10, 2025. He was born in Clarksville, Ark., on Jan. 4, 1933, to Wesley and Pearl (Steele) Eddington.

He grew up with his older brother Robert "Bob" Eddington, and older sisters, Patty Daniels and Betty Quadros. He excelled at playing football and basketball, receiving scholarships along with his brother Bob, which enabled them to attend the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville. Both he and his brother Bob enlisted in the National Guard. He was accepted into and attended medical school at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in California, where he completed his training to become an otolaryngologist. A portion of Navy service was completed on the USS Haven, which was docked at San Diego. In 1969, with the encouragement of Dr. Glenn Baker and Dr. Don Volman, "Dr. Bill" set up his practice in Jonesboro. There, he continued to serve Northeast Arkansas until his retirement in 2000. In his 31 years of practice, he was an integral part of the medical community.

Bill and his wife, Charlotte, brought their three boys, Wesley, David, and Paul, from California and raised them in the Jonesboro area.

Bill was a member of many tennis teams in the Jonesboro area and led one team as its captain to the National Finals.

He and his wife, Charlotte, had a great impact on their community, helping to establish the Northeast Arkansas chapter of United Cerebral Palsy.

Being raised in the countryside of Clarksville, he also enjoyed the pastures and outdoors in Northeast Arkansas on his cattle farm, where he and his wife Charlotte would spend the rest of their lives.

An avid bird-watcher, even at the age of 92, you could find him peering through binoculars through the windows of his sunroom, observing and identifying each bird he saw.

His wife Charlotte, of 68 years, passed away last year. He is survived by his three sons, Wesley (Debbie), David (Kellie), and Paul (Lori). In addition, his grandchildren, Lydia Hoffman (Vernon), Heath Hudspeth (Krystal), Nathan Eddington (Kayla), Regan Realon (James), Noel Eddington (Laddie), and a multitude of great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m.

I have been friends with Bill and Charlotte for over 60 years and and loved them deeply. We played tennis together, played cards together and laughed together. May god embrace both Bill and Charlotte together now in this loving arms. Becky Bailey
