Elizabeth Lucile (Betty Lou) Schreiber was born on February 16, 1936, near Olmitz, KS, on the family farm. The only daughter of Fred and Margaret (Mauler) Schreiber, she had four older brothers including Paul, Gene, Melvin, and Kenny. She graduated from Otis (KS) High School where she was a majorette in the marching band. She later moved to Great Bend, KS, where she worked as a telephone operator and bookkeeper. This is where she met the love of her life, Allen Pancost. Betty's brother, Paul, a Catholic priest, presided over Allen and Betty's wedding on January 19, 1956, in Great Bend, remaining happily married for 66 years. Allen's career in the trucking industry led them to many towns in the Western U.S., moving 14 times in ten years before settling in Sterling, CO. While Allen drove the highways, Betty kept the home fires burning while working at Lebsack Feedlot, Industrial Welding, and Colt Productions as a bookkeeper/office manager. As Allen Pancost Trucking grew Betty as co-owner joined the team as a dispatcher and administrator for their 17 trucks. In her spare time, Betty was an accomplished cake decorator, baking several wedding, graduation, and specialty cakes for family and friends. Quilting was another of Betty's hobbies and everyone in the family received one of her treasured quilts. As empty nesters, Allen and Betty discovered their lifelong passion for golf - spending many hours at Riverview Golf Course and Sterling Country Club, where they met many lifelong friends. In 1995, they began their dream adventure of wintering in Mesquite, NV; where golfing and new friendships filled their hearts to the brim. The pinnacle of Betty's golf career was earning two women's club championships at Sterling Country Club and Oasis Golf Club in the same year. She was the first women's champion of the Oasis Golf Club in Mesquite. Filling Betty's heart even more was time spent with her four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She loved sharing her passion for cooking and baking with her family, and making Christmas cookies, candy, and kuchen during the holidays was her favorite time of year. Betty is survived by her husband Allen Pancost of Sterling, children Mark Pancost of Sterling, Mike (Rose) Pancost of Alliance, NE, and Carrie (Gerry) Schaefer of Sterling; grandchildren Lyndsey (Brady) Pfeiffer of Aurora, CO, Allison Pancost of Denver, CO, Jared Schaefer of Sterling, and Mitch Pancost of Lead, SD; great-grandchildren Charlotte, Sophia, and Lucille Pfeiffer; brother Kenny (Joan) Schreiber of Kansas City; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Margaret Schreiber, brothers Paul, Gene, and Melvin (Frankie Lou) Schreiber; parents-in-law Walter and Ruth Pancost, and brother-in-law Bob (Marge) Pancost. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Betty's name to Hospice of The Plains or St. Anthony's Catholic Church c/o Tennant Funeral Home PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
