Jerome Schell Obituary

Jerome H. Schell, 88, of Sterling passed away April 1, 2023 in Sterling. A Rosary will be held Wednesday April 5th at 9:30 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am with Very Rev. Michael Bodzioch celebrating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery. Jerome was born March 3, 1935 in Sterling, CO to John and Rose (Schmitt) Schell. He attended St. Anthony's School through 8th grade. Jerome was a lifelong farmer in Sterling and Iliff, CO. He served in the Korean War from Dec. 3, 1957 to Sept. 15, 1959 as a Combat Engineer. He married Rose Marie Ryan on June 13, 1964 in Colby, KS, and were married for 59 years. Jerome was awarded the Sugar Beet High Ten Award for 3 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Elks BPO 1336, and received an Expert (Rifle) designation during Korean War. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, hunting, fishing, spending time with family, sneaking treats to his grandchildren, and cheering on the Rockies and the Broncos. He also loved just cruising the neighborhood to see what was happening in the agricultural community. Jerome is survived by his wife Rosie Schell; daughter Melissa Bornhoft, husband Ken and their children Kelsey and her husband Kyle and their daughter Hadlee, and Austin and his fiancé Myiah Scott. Son Larry Schell and his wife Jennifer and their children Emma and Gabbie. Daughter-in-law Danette Koester and significant other Stan Mustain and their children Allison and Lindsey. Son Tim Schell and his wife Nancy and their children Drew and Nick. Siblings John Schell (Florence), Jim Schell (Mary), Don Schell (Kris), Pat Louderbach (Dewey), Richard Schell (Judy), Ed Koester (Brother-in-law), Pam Schell (Sister-in-law) and Robert Schell (Jeanna). In-laws Mary Woydziak, Betty Gaines (Jon), Larry Ryan (Linda), Bill Ryan (Kathy), Patricia Ryan (sister-in-law), Terry Ryan, Lois Ryan (sister-in-law), Jerry Ryan (Terri), and Don Ryan; 8 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Mary Rose, son Terry Schell, parents John and Rose Schell, in-laws HL and Ethel Ryan, nephew Bruce Wodyziak, brother Kenny Schell, niece Natalie Luerman, brothers-in-law Tom Ryan, James Wodyziak, and Jim Ryan, and sister Pam Koester. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Plains or a charity of your choice, care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
