Terry Vaughn Obituary
Terry Lynn Vaughn was born February 13, 1958, in Akron, CO, the oldest of two children born to Billie and Virginia Vaughn. Terry passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2021, in Greeley, CO. Terry was baptized into the Akron Methodist Church. Terry attended school in Akron until he graduated from Akron High School in 1976. During those years, Terry made lifelong friendships with classmates and advisors. Terry participated in numerous clubs and activities while attending the Akron Public Schools. Some of his favorite clubs and activities were football, wrestling, and the rodeo club in high school. Terry was also involved in student government, being elected student body vice president in seventh grade, student body president in eighth grade, and president of his class during his junior year of high school. Terry was active in 4-H, which is where he found his love for showing animals. Terry won many honors with his show cattle at the Eastern Colorado Roundup. The Akron chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) was where Terry shined and turned his love of people and agriculture into a passion. Terry received the FFA State Farmer designation, was on the 2nd place state parliamentary procedure team, received the Colorado FFA certificates of merit award and held numerous offices. Terry was elected Treasurer for the 1976-1977 Colorado Association of FFA. After high school, Terry continued his education at Northeastern Junior College (NJC), where he graduated in 1979 with a Associate in Arts degree in Agriculture. Terry was elected 1st Vice President by the Associated Student Government at NJC for 1978-1979. While at NJC, Terry continued to hone his livestock judging ability as an NJC Livestock Team member. The NJC Livestock Judging Team won many prestigious accolades, culminated by winning the grand championship of the National Association of College Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Livestock Judging Contest. Terry continued his education at Colorado State University (CSU), graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Agriculture. While at CSU, Terry was a member of the CSU Livestock Judging Team. Terry won the horse judging division at the 1980 National Western Stock Show in Denver. While at CSU, Terry was a member of the FarmHouse Fraternity. Terry spent a short time as a commodity broker before moving back to Akron. Terry could bring people together and loved to throw a good dinner party. His sly grin and a twinkle in his eye are the reason he was so successful in the hospitality industry. Whether he was listening to your troubles at Doc's or helping a local school or charity organize Doc's Famous Cajun Boil, he was happiest when people were having a good time. Terry managed the Club at Indian Hills in Yuma, CO, where he reconnected with some old friends and made plenty of new friends. For the past ten years, Terry was the manager of Mojo's Inn in Akron. He still loved golf, racehorses, his Bronco Orange Hummer, and dinner with family and friends. Terry is preceded in death by his father, Billie Vaughn; paternal grandparents, Russell and Dorothy Vaughn; and maternal grandparents, Will and Ollie Boles. Terry is survived by his mother, Virginia (Gaston) Munoz of El Paso, TX; sister Tammy (Larry) Winger of Yuma, CO; nephew Keane (Sandra) Ververs and daughters of Greeley, CO; uncle Rodney (Linda) Boles of Cañon City, CO; numerous cousins, relatives, and friends. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Akron Cemetery, followed by a dinner for family, friends, and the community. Memorial donations may be made to the Akron FFA program on behalf of Terry Lynn Vaughn.
