Andrew Kirkman Obituary

Andrew A. Kirkman
It is with devastated hearts that family and friends had to say goodbye to Andrew Alastair (Dewey) Kirkman. Sadly, Dewey, 35, passed away on June 16, 2023. He was a wonderful soul who made friends with everyone he met. His passing has left a hole in many hearts.
He was an avid sports fan and closely followed all the New England sports teams. Dewey even acquired his nickname at a young age from Dwight "Dewey" Evans of the Boston Red Sox; this nickname stayed with him throughout his life. He intensely followed the Patriots and UConn men's basketball, never missing a game and was a very animated fan to say the least.
Dewey loved all things related to the ocean and water. He was his happiest fishing, snorkeling, body surfing, the bigger the wave, the bigger the shark, the bigger his joy. Many family vacations were spent on or near the water with one of his favorites being swimming with whale sharks in Mexico.
Born in Paget, Bermuda on August 2, 1987, he grew up in South Windsor, CT, graduating from South Windsor High School in 2005. Anyone who attended SWHS during that time may fondly remember with a laugh the ever popular 80 Dime Soldiers, a rap group including our own "Lil Dew Woo" as a member. Dewey never laughed so hard as when years later he met someone in Florida that said, 'Wait, are you Lil Dew Woo? I had one of your CD's!'
Sadly, this kind and smart, funny, and much-loved person was taken far too soon. His unfortunate long struggle with alcoholism took its toll. Alcohol impacted his relationships with family and friends, took away his opportunities, his joy, and finally his life.
He leaves behind to grieve his passing, his parents Roger and Debbie, sister Jennifer (Aaron) Gluchacki, his adored grandfather Bill "W" Walker, many aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece, nephews, and a host of close friends, many of whom he thought of as "brothers".
Our many thanks go out to family and friends, without whose continued love and support we would never be able to endure this loss. A celebration of Dewey's life will be held on Monday, July 10, 2023, from 4-8pm with a memorial service beginning at 5pm at the Rotary Pavilion at Nevers Park, 55 Chief Ryan Way, South Windsor, CT.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, to truly honor Dewey's kind heart and generous spirit we ask you to simply show kindness to someone in need.

Dewey was one of my best friends growing up and our falling apart is something I will always remember and wish I could have changed for the better. He definitely put others first and his time was taken too soon. I don't think I ever met someone who liked the water more than me. Miss you buddy.
