Bertha Guros Obituary
On Friday, October 4, 2024, Bertha Sofia (Bengston) Guros, age 101, went through the heavenly gates to join her beloved twin sister, Agnes and husband John. Her niece/caregiver, Suzanne Goodison, nephew Paul Scherban and great-nephew Samuel Scherban surrounded her with love as she departed this earth. Bertha and her twin sister were born on April 15, 1923 in Springfield, MA to Bror and Augusta Bengston.
Due to a family tragedy which occurred when Bertha was 9 years old she lived part of her early life at the Children's Home in Cromwell, CT and graduated from MIddletown High School in 1941. Upon graduation she went to work for Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT where she was a loyal and valued employee for over 50 years. In 1955 she was honored by being selected to be the secretary to Dr. Thomas Malone who headed the newly created Travelers Weather Service. She was also a member of the Travelers Girls Club and Travelers Choral club.
On July 10, 1954 Bertha married John Guros and shortly after moved to Enfield, CT where they resided in their home for over 60 years. Their time together was full of adventure as they hiked and camped throughout the United States and became avid square dancers. Bertha was proud of her accomplishment of climbing to the top of Mount Washington at age 70.
Bertha leaves several nieces and nephews and 2 special friends, Sharon Ouellette, her longtime BFF, with whom she enjoyed many wonderful times, and Ellen Cohen, her hairdresser, who each week for many years, lovingly drove her to and from her favorite salon, Styles and Files in Enfield, where Bertha enjoyed getting her hair done and the friendship of everyone at the salon who made her time there very special.
Bertha lived a Christian life, loving the Lord, and went through each day of her life with kindness, love and compassion. Her constant bright smile, loving nature and positive attitude is her legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Leete-Stevens Chapel Enfield is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be private and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

My Aunt Bertha would have turned 102 on April 15. There will never be another human being more kind, compassionate and loving. My Uncle John was one lucky man!! #3 and Billy

Bertha was a very special kind, generous and classy lady.
I grew up on the same street as Bertha, she was one of the nicest neighbors you could ask for.
On Halloween John and Bertha´s house was definitely the one you never skipped !!
When I was a little kid I remember seeing John and Bertha pass bye as they would drive down the street together......What I always thought was that they always just looked so "in Love" together !!
Even later in life despite her health issues and being alone after the love her had passed on !! She still was always wearing a smile !!
Sometimes while sitting on her front porch I loved listening to her memories of some of the adventurous camping stories John and her had made in their journey together !!
Bertha was like a second Mother for my brother Brian as he was her neighbor for her entire life.
