Cecelia B. Tedone, 88, of South Windsor, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, at Vernon Manor.
Born Cecelia Ann Barry, daughter of the late, Thomas and Irene (Foley) Barry of East Hartford, she was a graduate of East Hartford High School class of 1952. She lived in South Windsor for almost 60 years; 48 of those years in the same white ranch on Pleasant Valley Road. Mother, daughter, sister, wife, Cub Scout leader, aunt, and grandma will be dearly missed. Irish wife who learned from her Italian mother-in-law how to cook Italian dishes to taste. Cecelia's specialties were her eggplant parmesan (a unique version) and the special treat of squid in marinara for the holidays. For decades Cecelia hosted her family for every holiday especially Christmas and Thanksgiving which were sumptuous feasts. She had friends and family at her home often to play card games of all sorts; one deck, two decks, four decks so many games. And board games of trivia and word finds too. Bingo always brought her happiness. For years she went to bingo once or twice a week, at local churches. Even while in the nursing home, she knew bingo was Tuesday and Thursday she made it every chance she got. As a guest at her home, you would find bowls of candy for her guests placed near the door or seating area. She always had chocolates and, her favorite, small skittles flavored jellybeans. She was always a voracious book reader and until her vision declined, she read books every day; mysteries were her favorite. She loved puzzles; she always had a table set up with a 1,000-piece puzzle with various levels of completion. She also loved flowers; planting, and building colorful gardens were her pride and joy. Cece learned to bake every Italian cookie that her Italian mother-in-law could teach. She learned to make each of the cookies expertly, and then shared the recipes and the experience with the next generations. Oh, and let's talk about the cookies!! Cookies, cookies, and more cookies; for Christmas, for Thanksgiving, everyday cookies... she became an anise cookie expert, baking cookies 2 or 3 days a week to give to friends and family every day when they visited. But, oh, those fantastic Christmas anise cookie ties!..anise bread, anise cookies, anise twists, and biscotti!!
She is survived by her sons, James P Tedone of Belchertown, Massachusetts, Barry C Tedone and his wife, Tamara of Willington, and Richard T Tedone of Tolland; grandchildren, Ashley Tedone of Belchertown, Christina Tedone of South Windsor, Amber Tedone of Tolland, Jack Tedone, Cassandra Tedone, and Nicholas Tedone, all of South Windsor; a nephew, Mark Guidotti of West Hartford; and one great-grandson, Kobe Tedone of Belchertown.
