It is with great sadness; we announce the loss of Cecilia L. (Powder) Babij.
Ceil was born on August 30, 1946, to the late Jesse L. Powder and Cecilia M. (Samski) Powder in Baltimore, Maryland.
Ceil received her bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and completed her master's degree in education from the University of Connecticut (UConn) in 1975. She spent 32 years as a classroom teacher educating and nurturing children to become the best they could be. Her classroom was built on kindness and respect for others. Ceil's career as a teacher was fun and rewarding. She often remarked that she hoped all teachers would experience the same wonderful reward of working in the classroom with children as she did. Teachers know the only secret to that success is to find time for what Ceil considered the really important "STUFF"!!
Ceil is survived by Michael P. Babij, her husband of 53 years, and her amazing daughter and son-in-law, Stacey L. and Michael J. Flynn of Somers, CT. She also leaves a wonderful brother and "sis-in-law," Clayton and Linda Powder of Deatsville, Alabama. Ceil's brightest stars in the sky are her cherished grandchildren, Gracie Lee Cecilia and Gavin Michael Joseph Flynn of Somers. Ceil defined true love and total happiness as time spent with her "Grands"! Ceil will be watching over her Gs and supporting them by sharing their sorrows as well as celebrating their joys!
In Ceil's honor, always find the good in people, support each other in your daily life, and do random acts of kindness whenever you get the opportunity.
A fond farewell (in ABC order) to some of the many fun friends Ceil enjoyed over the years – Auntie, Auntie Shell, Beulah, Gagee, Granny, Martha, Mseburns, Mo-Ho, One L., and Ruby! They know who they are! (Lunches out, shopping buddies, and much more)!
As per Ceil's request, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends may join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield.
