Chaudoin Callaway Obituary
He was born and raised in Chickamauga, Ga., to Chaudoin Callaway Jr. and Anna (Barr) Callaway. Shad graduated high school from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tenn., obtained his undergraduate degree at Southern Methodist University in Texas, graduated from Yale Divinity School in Connecticut, was in the second graduating class of the American Foundation of Religion and Psychiatry, now Blanton-Peale Institute in New York City, was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church, was a diplomate of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, founded and led the Pastoral Counseling Service of Northern New Jersey, and obtained his Doctorate of Ministry from Drew University in New Jersey. Shad practiced privately for 42 years as a Marriage and Family Counselor, and wrote the foreword to Dr. Hector J. Ritey's book, "The Human Kingdom." He was a beloved mentor, colleague, friend, and counselor to many and devoted many years and scholarly writings to the meaning of compassion in our lives.
In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his son, Joseph Morgan Callaway of West Hartford; and daughter, Megan Ann Callaway Duffy; son-in-law, Joel Robert Duffy; and grandson, Bryan Patrick Duffy, all of Columbia; and nephews Garnett McMillan of Chickamauga, Ga., and Sandy McMillan of Signal Mountain, Tenn. He was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Ann McMillan.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main St., Manchester, on Friday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the South United Methodist Church Elevator Fund, to make all activities at the church accessible.
His thoughtful and gentle presence will be missed by all who knew him.
