Daniel Burbank Obituary

Daniel L. Burbank
On December 9, 2024, Daniel ("Dan") L. Burbank passed peacefully away after a long illness.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and son, Dan lived his life with compassion, service, integrity and love.
Dan leaves his cherished wife Joan (Guzy) Burbank, son Daniel C. Burbank, daughter Suzanne (Burbank) Blinkinsop, and son-in-law Tom Blinkinsop. He also leaves his two beloved grandchildren Emily L. Burbank and Daniel I. Burbank and innumerable cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his mother Dorothea (Pez) Burbank and father Daniel L. Burbank.
Dan was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1935 and was a career teacher and school administrator with the state of Connecticut's vocational technical school system.
A man of deep faith, Dan spent years with the Knights of Columbus in Tolland, CT, where he attained the honor of Fourth Degree and Grand Knight. He also was a Eucharistic Minister and taught prospective parishioners of Saint Matthew Catholic Church in Tolland through the RCIA program.
Dan continued his service and teaching in the community through Habitat for Humanity, teaching Safe Boating courses with the Power Squadron and serving the town as a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.).
An avid amateur radio operator ("Ham"), Dan touched the lives of thousands of fellow Hams across the country and the world, many of whom became lifelong friends. Even those Hams too geographically remote to meet in person still became dear friends and colleagues.
His love of the outdoors was expressed through his time as a ski instructor, fisherman, camper, and sailor. Though he began those pursuits as a young man, he continued many of them well into his 80's. Dan also spent years singing as a member of the "Note-ables" at the Tolland Senior Center.
Dan served in the US Navy Reserve for 12 years as a radarman, which was a source of pride for him.
A wake celebrating his life will be held at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday December 17, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A funeral Mass and reception will follow at St Matthew Catholic Church in Tolland, CT on Wednesday December 18, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I just found out about Mr Burbanks passing. He was my electronics teacher at Cheney Tech. So sorry to hear. May he rest in peace and condolences to the family. Taught me a lot before graduating in 1967 and post graduate 1968.

I met Dan many years ago but kept in touch with him via Ham radio.
We had many chats on the 50MHz band.
He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
I was saddened to hear of his passing.

I met Dan many years ago while going thru the RCIA program and during that time I suffered some back spasms. Any time I ran into him he would always ask "how's your back doing?" He was so kind and thoughtful and always had a great smile. My husband Dave also has fond memories of his brother Knight. He fought a courageous fight. Our heartfelt sympathies to your family.

Dan was a long time Ham radio friend who I talked to on many Saturday nights. He will be missed on the air by many hams radio operators. Sympathy to all the family.

I have known "Uncle" Dan for my whole life. I have so many memories of times our families spent together camping, skiing and getting together with the rest of the Ham radio group. So many hours of my childhood listening to the conversations between WA1GET , WA1BXC & WA1ELA in the car on roadtrips long before cellphones were a thing. Uncle Dan always made me laugh, he had such a great sense of humor. I remember him lugging around that huge video camcorder to videotape my wedding; that was such a new technology at the time. I think his favorite story to tell was the one about my dad blowing himself out the door of the camper when he tried to light the propane heater. So many memories. Aunt Joan, Danny & Suzanne My heart is with you all. He will be greatly missed.

Daniel was an instructor when I was a student at Cheney Tech Vocational School, a million years ago. I was pleasantly surprised when he joined The Manchester Power Squadron that I was active in, years later. We spent some enjoyable times discussing boats and Ham Radio. I regret that I never did see his "station" at his home. He was immensely proud of his son who was serving as an astronaut, and he provided some "downlinks" during a flight. Interesting stuff. Fair Winds and Calm Seas my friend !!!

Dan Burbank was a dear friend and neighbor of mine for 25 years. He was a the guy that seemed to know everything and was always willing to lend a hand or advice when asked and I asked a lot, especially as a young home owner. I will hold many memories of Dan close to my heart and truly feel blessed to have known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and the rest of the family. May he rest in peace. Best regards.

I have had many of QSO over the years with Dan and so enjoyed his company both in person and on the air.
My heart goes out to his family. I always at times like this try to think of not what you lost BUT what you had!
