David Mordavsky Obituary

David M. Mordavsky, DTE, 82 of Manchester, husband of Audrey J. (Piche), passed away Dec. 16, 2021, at Vernon Manor.

He was born June 27, 1939, in Manchester, son of the late Frank A. and Bernice M. (Yankowski) Mordavsky. David was educated in the Manchester school system and was a 1957 graduate of Manchester High School. He received his bachelor of science degree in 1961 and his master's of science in 1970, both from Central Connecticut state college in industrial arts education. He was named a Distinguished Technology Educator in 1997 by the International Technology Education Association. David was an instructor and Dept. Head at RHAM High School in Hebron for 18 years and for many years served as Technology education consultant for the state of Connecticut Dept. of Education in Middletown until his retirement in 1992.

Besides his wife and fishing partner, David is survived by his brother Dr. Donald F. Mordavsky and wife, Gail of South Windsor; his sister Donna (Mordavsky) Johnson and husband; David of Enfield. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Professionally, he was a member and past officer in several different states, regional and international industrial/Technology Education Associations. He was named Connecticut Industrial Arts Teacher of the year in 1973, Outstanding State Supervisor of the year in 1984, Outstanding Technology Supervisor of the year in 1991, and Alumnus of the year in 1992 from Central Connecticut State University School of Technology. He was also an honorary member of both the New Brunswick Technology Education Association in 1978 and the Australian Council of Education Technology of Tasmania in 1989. He served as a member of the Vocational Education Advisory Committee of the American School of the Deaf from 1992-2003, David authored numerous publications and articles on Industrial Arts/Technology Education and served as a judge for Stanley Tools National Furniture contest from 1979-1983. An avid trout and salmon fisherman along with his wife Audrey, David was a Connecticut Aquatic resources educator with the Bureau of Fisheries, CT Dept. of Environmental Protection. A freelance writer of numerous regional articles and a fishing advisory contributor to the Journal Inquirer newspaper. Co-Owner and partner in "ATTELAGE PICHE" along with his wife, they have built a well sponsored fishing machine including the latest in innovative fishing technology. Twice having fished New Zealand, Australia, and Tasmania for a month. They have also spent considerable time fishing in Ireland and Scotland. Together they also import lures from Tasmania known as Connecticut Cobras, their moniker was "TEAM FISH'N" which they also enjoyed as the license plate of their tow vehicle. David was also a member of the Manchester Fire Dept. 8th District for 33 years where he served as treasurer for 15 years and as chairman of the department's 100th anniversary celebration in 1988, the year that he retired from the fire department.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bridget Church, Jan. 15, 2022, at 10 a.m.
