David W Shearer, Sr

David "Dave" Shearer, long-time resident of Manchester, CT, departed peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the age of 91 on 7/27/2025. He was born on 11/15/1933 to Dorothy (Wiskemann) and Lyle Shearer. Dave was a graduate of Princeton University and worked for Traveler's Insurance Company as an executive of the Group Department retiring in 1992.
Dave enjoyed golfing, trout fishing, bird watching, reading poetry, cooking and so much more in his life. As a father, he made sure we went skating, exploring in the woods, rowing, and sledding. He was active for ten years in the Boy Scouts of America and a lifelong blood donor for the Red Cross.
Surviving Dave is his one true love, Drucilla (Waltenbaugh) Shearer with whom he would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on August 28, 2025. Also surviving are his brothers Donald Shearer (Barbara) in Walker, MI and Robert Shearer (Karen) in Sarver, PA. Dave was the proud father of four children he lovely fiercely: Bridgit Litchfield of Belchertown, MA, David W. Shearer, Jr. (Sue) of Fort Mill, SC, Michael Shearer (Denise) of Unionville, CT, and Deidre Aufiero (Tony) of Avon, CT. Dave will also be missed by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will have a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Troop 25, 11 Center St., Manchester, CT 06040.
