Donald Howard Cunningham, 82, of Somers, CT passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Don was born in Plumwesweep, New Brunswick, Canada on January 1, 1943, with his twin sister Lorna and was the son of the late H. Leslie and Gertrude (MacKenzie) Cunningham. Don graduated from Sussex High School in 1961. Upon graduation Don did odd jobs with his father doing carpentry until coming the United States where he attended the University of Hartford in Hartford, CT and graduated with a degree in business and later becoming a CPA and took over his aunt's company, The Hanson Whitney Company and later built another company, Bennington Tool. Don was a proud veteran having served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Don is survived by his wife Trudy, son Scott (Laurie), daughter Kerri (Donna), loving grandchildren Alex and Molly with their mother Charleen Poitras, sister-in-law Pauline (Huntley) Chisholm as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his twin sister Lorna, sisters Joan (Bob) Harrop and Myrna Cunningham and brother Melvin Cunningham.
Don was a longtime communicant of Somers Baptist Church. Relatives and friends may join the family on Sunday, September 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Somers Baptist Church, 40 Battle St., Somers, CT for a memorial service celebrating Don's life. Interment will take place in New Brunswick, Canada at a later date.
