Doris Griswold Obituary

Doris L. (McFarland) Griswold, 80, beloved wife of Glenn O. Griswold of East Hartford, passed away peacefully Monday, June 4, 2007, at Manchester Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.

Doris was born October 29, 1926, in Manchester, daughter of the late W. John and Lillian (Fromerth) McFarland, and had resided in Manchester for most of her life. She attended local schools, was a graduate of Manchester High School Class of 1944, and a member of the field hockey team. Doris had been employed in the Safe Deposit Department at the Saving Bank of Manchester, retiring in 1988, and previously was employed at Pratt & Whitney East Hartford. She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and the Ladies Altar Guild and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid Yankees and UConn women's basketball fan, enjoyed occasional trips to the casinos and spending time with her family.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Griswold is survived by her children, Glenn J. Griswold and his wife, Gertrude, of Nottingham, N.H., Dawn L. Griswold of East Hartford, Thomas R. Griswold and his wife, Anne, of Manchester, Tammy E. Primus and her husband, Nathan, of Southington, Donald A. Griswold and his wife, Gail, of Tolland; two sisters, Marjorie Highter and her husband, Arthur, of Bolton, Faith McKenna and her companion, Michael Baldt, of Manchester; a brother-in-law, Charles Chaponis of South Windsor; nine grandchildren, Glenn Daniel, Valerie, Cathy, Debbie, Alicia, Melanie, Kenneth, Austin, Connor; and a great-granddaughter, Lilliana; several nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents, Doris was predeceased by a sister, Marion Chaponis and a cousin, Evelyn Donahue.

The family wishes to thank the Salmon Brook Health Care Facility in Glastonbury especially the C-Wing Staff for their kindness and compassion.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 41 Church Street, Manchester, followed by burial in Townsend Cemetery, Andover.

Family and friends may call today, June 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association CT, 306 Industrial Park Road, Suite 105, Middletown, CT 06457, or St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
