Heather MacDonald Obituary

Heather Anne MacDonald, 28, of Middletown, formerly of Durham, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Middlesex Hospital.

Heather was the much-loved daughter and best friend of Jeanne C. (Rich) MacDonald. She was born on February 16, 1983. Her father, John E. MacDonald resides in New York. Heather was a 2001 graduate of Coginchaug Regional High School and attended Our Lady of the Elms College for a year before transferring to and graduating Magna Cum Laude from St. Joseph College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and Art Therapy. She then earned a master's degree in Clinical Social Work from Smith College in 2007. Heather has worked at the Children's Home of Cromwell since graduating, and recently became a licensed clinical social worker. She loved the challenge of working with "her kids" and took her responsibilities very seriously. In her leisure time, Heather loved to read, listen to music, and sing, as well as being creative with painting, jewelry making, scrap booking, and genealogy.

Besides her parents, Heather is survived by her brother, Ian S. MacDonald of Enfield; her maternal grandmother, Agnes I. Rich of Ellington; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She also leaves her close friends and her much loved cats, Mystic and Sage.

Calling hours will be held on Monday April 18, 2011, at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m.

Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

One of Heather's passions was genealogy according to her life's story. I've known of my 2nd cousin for quite a while through my own genealogy research but never met her. She even went to school here in Chicopee where I live. Sadly, I just learned of her death which is now almost a year ago. My heart goes out to her parents, Jeanne and John, and brother, Ian. I can't begin to understand the feeling of losing a daughter, son or other family member so close and so young. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family on the anniversary of your loss.

Jeanne & Ian,
How shocked and saddened I was to hear about Heather! I was proud to read about all of the accomplishments of my student in a life taken way too young. I can only imagine how you must feel. I will always remember my eager, smiling kindergartner and her terrific mom and brother.
