James E. Devine, Jr.
James E. Devine, Jr., 92, beloved husband of F. Jean (Ambrosini) Devine, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. He was born August 1, 1931, in Springfield to James E. and Esther (Arens) Devine.
James proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Triest, Italy where he oversaw medical supplies. As a young man he was owner of Devine-Watson Chicken in Enfield. He later attended AIC in Springfield earning a degree in 1970 while working as a Quality Control Engineer at Pratt and Whitey Aircraft. He retired from Pratt and Whitney in 1991. He and his family were longtime parishioners at St. Patrick Church in Enfield. James enjoyed singing as part of the Enfield Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Propagation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in the United States (SPPBSQSUS). James enjoyed singing lead for several different quartets in that organization.
James is survived by his wife Jean to whom he was married for 65 years, his son, Dr. James E. Devine, III and his wife Judi; his daughter, Dr. Susan Devine, and her husband Robert Baillargeon; his grandchildren, Stephanie Wesolowski and her husband Dr. Christian Wesolowski, James E. Devine IV, Aidan Devine-Baillargeon; his sister Joan Devine Lemeris, brother-in-law, Donald Ambrosini and his nieces and nephews, Joan Lee, James R. Lemeris Jr, Anne Lemeris and Joseph R. Lemeris. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law James Lemeris.
Relatives and friends may join the family on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Leete Stevens Funeral Home in Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield. Burial will follow at St. Patrick King Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made in James' memory to the American Heart Association.
