Janet Caldwell Obituary

Janet Iversen Caldwell of Ocean Trail, Jupiter, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008.

She was born in Hartford, on January 17, 1932, to the late Harold and Lucile Iversen. She is predeceased by her sister, Jane Iversen; son John Caldwell; her husband, Donald Caldwell; her son-in-law, Paul Loughlin; her granddaughter, Erin Caldwell; and in later years her companion and beloved friend, Frank DeTolla.

Janet is survived by her sister Joan and husband, Allan Freiheit, of Vernon; her son Donald and wife Sheryl Caldwell, and their children, Christopher and Sarah, of Bolton; son, Glenn and Monica Caldwell and their children, James, Ryan and Luke, of Warwick, R.I.; daughter-in-law Carolyn Caldwell and her children, Catherine, Danielle and John Patrick, of Suffield; and daughter Kimberly and her daughter, Kathryn, of Glencoe, Md.

Janet is a graduate of Manchester High School, Manchester Community College and Boston University's College of Technical Arts and Letters. Her career centered on the law working in many different capacities ranging from legal secretary, legal administrator and office manager. Janet worked at several private law offices both in Connecticut and in Florida, including the Office of the Corporation Counsel in Hartford. She was an associate of the American Bar Association and Notary Public. While she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe, her love for the ocean was where she was most at home. She could be found either in Jupiter, Fla., or Weekapaug, R.I., with her family and friends. The center and pride of Janet's life was her family, especially her nine grandchildren. Any activity enjoyed with family was always a highlight for her. To her children's amazement, she found time to go tobogganing, wind-surfing and obtained her motorcycle license. She delighted in teaching her children and grandchildren many life skills.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 22, at 11 a.m. at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center Street, Manchester, with burial to follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in memory of Janet to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
