Joan Shaw Obituary

Joan Patricia Shaw
Joan Patricia (McNally) Shaw, 91, of Vernon, beloved wife of over 50 years of the late Raymond R. Shaw Jr., peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Joan was born on March 2, 1934, in Norwood, Massachusetts, one of three loving daughters of the late Joseph & Jennie (Kullas) McNally.
She was raised in Norwood and was a graduate of Norwood High School, Class of 1952. Along with raising her family, Joan had been employed for many years with the Town of Vernon, working as a secretary in the Social Services Department, until her retirement in 1986.
Joan's Roman Catholic faith was very strong. She was an active dedicated member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Vernon and more recently was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, attending St. Bernard Church in Rockville. Her religious and parish commitment included cooking and baking for several bereavement functions over the years. Joan loved to knit and donated hundreds of hats over the years. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and her yard as well.
Joan is survived by her three sons, Brian Shaw and his partner, Denise Ruddy of East Hartford, Paul Shaw of Andover and Michael Shaw and his wife, Marliese of Griswold, her two cherished grandsons, Kevin Shaw of Vernon and Stephen Shaw and his wife, Ally of Clinton. She was considered Grandma Joan by Kevin and Stephen's cousins, Eric, Joseph, Ethan, RJ and Connor. Joan also leaves her sister, Judith Roberts of Enfield and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Lane, formerly of Falmouth, MA.
Joan's family would like to extend a special thank you to her home health aides, Shirley and Maxene, for their extraordinary care and love over the last two years.
All are welcome to join the family for calling hours on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 5-7 pm at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Vernon, CT 06066.
