Lawrence Sawyer Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Sawyer, 75, of Windsor Locks, loving husband of 42 years to his wife, Marie (Meyer) Sawyer, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington after his struggle with cancer.

Larry was born on Aug. 20, 1934, in Rockland, Maine, the second-oldest of nine, and moved to Connecticut in the early 1960s. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and worked for W.T. Grant, Finast/Edwards warehouse and as a valet driver until his retirement. Larry enjoyed his retirement with reading westerns, playing cards and ball, helping his grandchildren with their homework, and watching countless hours of Sponge Bob with his granddaughters whom he resided with.

Along with his beloved wife, Marie, he is survived by his daughter with whom he resided, Jacqueline Dakin, and her husband, David, of Windsor Locks; sons, Timothy Sawyer and his wife, Donna, of Delaware, Anthony Sawyer of New Hampshire, and Larry Cook of Maine; five grandchildren, Matthew Cook of Maine, Alexandria and Austin Sawyer of Delaware, Veta and Keira Dakin of Windsor Locks. Larry is also survived by his sisters, Veronica Baughman of East Windsor, Sally Simonton and her husband, Donald, and Minnie Watt and her husband, Pete, of Maine; brothers-in-law, Butch Meyer and a special friend, Kathy Ruffino of West Hartford, and Paul Meyer and his wife, Glenda, of Florida; a great grandson, Logan Cook of Maine; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Monday, July 26, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 42 Spring St., Windsor Locks. (Please meet at the church.) Military honors will be presented at the church immediately following the Mass. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations in memory of Larry may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
