Leatrice Rick Obituary

Leatrice Ann Rick
Leatrice Ann "Leann" (LaPointe) Rick, 73, of Ellington and formerly a longtime resident of Manchester, devoted wife of Richard Rick passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, after a valiant year-long battle with brain cancer. Leann was born in Caswell, Maine on November 28, 1950, to the late Philip E. and Simone G. (LaForest) LaPointe. Leann and family moved from Maine to Enfield, Connecticut when she was a teen.
In 1971, Leann and Rick married and built their life together in Manchester for the next 53 years. While Leann worked in accounts receivables later in life, Leann was most proud to be a stay-at-home Mom to her two loving daughters; Kimberly (Kevin) Lavender and April Alexander and relished in their accomplishments.
Besides her loving husband and daughters, she also leaves her three grandsons – without a doubt to anyone, the absolute pride and joy of her heart: Toby and Ryan Lavender and Max Alexander. She attended all school and sporting events, sometimes arriving before the coaches to be sure she didn't miss a beat and cherished her weekly dinner and lunch dates with Max.
She is also survived by her band of sisters, Norma Shannon, Anne Simlick (Michael) Ayotte, Dee Cekala (Sturge), Marita (Ed) Cunningham and Pam LaPointe; her brothers, Don LaPointe, Bob (Joe) LaPointe, Walter (Mary) LaPointe and Bernie (Gina) LaPointe, her brother-in-law, Jean Talbot, sister-in-law Paula Rick, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful neighbors. She is now reunited with her parents, brother Peter LaPointe, sister Sandra Talbot, mother and father-in-law, Alfred J and Patricia Rick, brothers-in-law John Shannon, Henry Simlick, Alfred F Rick, sisters-in-law Betty LaPointe, Maryanne LaPointe and great-nephew Adam Poirier.
Leann took great pride in decorating their family home – changing décor to align with the seasons both inside and out. Christmas was her favorite holiday and had even more impressive décor – often hosting tours of each room which was more decorated than the next.
Her love of décor transcended to her outfits, as represented by her always-matching shoes. No matter the color or pattern, she had shoes to match. Many who knew her always looked down to see the shoes she was wearing as she boasted she got them on sale!
Leann and Rick thoroughly enjoyed their vacations, including their annual fall trip to Perkins Cove, Maine where Leann treasured her walks along the Marginal Way, several trips to Vermont, New Hampshire and Montreal, Canada. They were thrilled to celebrate their first and second honeymoon in Hawaii and truly enjoyed their once-in-a-lifetime first-class trip to Alaska.
A private family service will be held to honor Leann's beautiful life. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vernon will be arranging services. To help honor Leann, spend some time outside, relax with a great book or attempt a word puzzle. Leann looked forward to her daily 2-mile walk around the neighborhood, enjoyed her romance novels and proudly completed daily cryptograms.
Leann's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many healthcare providers who cared for her during her illness this past year.

Dear Dee, I know that your sister's passing must have greatly affected you, because you and Leann had a very beautiful relationship.

Here's what I remember about Leann. Leann was a woman of heart. She knew, with Rick, Kimberly and April, how to generously greet the family guests from Canada who came occasionally to visit her.

She even traveled to Quebec on several occasions with Rick, Kimberly and April during important events or simply for holidays.

The La Forest family where always honored with their visits. Personally, when I would meet Leann, I felt her sincere love for all our families.

She would radiate a beautiful energy. Just like with you and the members of your beautiful and large family, language was not a barrier. We would always understand each other.

Leann and I shared a common interest in a Looney Tunes character: Tweety Bird.

For me, Tweety Bird represents my deep values, which are Love, Family, Friendship and Respect and I would also recognize in Leann these values.

I believe that Leann will continue this ongoing mission from the top of her cloud in heaven and she will be watching over all of you.

For my part, know that I will always have a thought for your sister when I look at my Tweety Bird tattoo that I have immortalized on my body

Leann, may you rest in peace.

I would like to offer to you and Sturge as well as to all your children´s our sincere condolences.

I would like you to forward our sincere condolences to Rick, Kimberly, Toby, Ryan, April and Max.

I would also like you to forward our sincere condolences to your sisters and your brothers families.

May our thoughts, our prayers and our love be with you to help you get through this ordeal and remember that love has no boundaries.

We love you,

Claudette and Alain

My sister and I spent every Christmas at the Rick's decorating their tree. Because we are Jewish, this was a real treat for us. As the years went by, the tree would get smaller and smaller, but it was always a special treat. Then Rick would get pizzas, and the next treats would begin. Then they would come to my house for Chanakkah and feast on my potato latkes. We have known LeAnn since she married Rick and were very blessed for that. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.
