Martha White Obituary

Martha Frances (Cotter) White, 88, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022, in Framingham Massachusetts.

She was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on March 9, 1934, the daughter of the late Martha Smith Cotter and Thomas Cotter.

Her beloved husband, Sky, passed in 2012. They were married for 58 years. Martha is survived by her four children, Mary Beth and her husband, John Clifford of Rye Beach, New Hampshire; David and his wife, Darlene of Peachtree City, Georgia; Susan and her husband, Bill Callahan of Medway, Massachusetts; James and his wife, Nancy of Goshen. She is survived by eight grandchildren, JD, Laura, Jaime, Michael, Emily, Caroline, Luis, and Bridget; and three great-grandchildren, Noelle, Valerie, and William. She is also survived by two brothers, Thomas and his wife, Doria of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and Richard and his wife, Marion of Calgary, Canada. She was loved deeply and is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Martha was predeceased by her beloved sister Amy whose birthday was the date of Martha's passing.

Martha grew up in her early years in Methuen, Massachusetts but she always called her beloved Turners Falls, Massachusetts home. She graduated from Turners Falls High School in 1952. Martha and Sky were married in 1954. In 1960, they found their forever home at 24 Aloha Drive in Enfield, where they raised their four children. They were both actively involved in the community through volunteer work especially at their beloved St. Martha Church. Martha was the dedicated chair of the CCD program at St. Martha Church from 1969-2003. She was actively involved with the Prudence Crandall PTA and the Enrico Fermi Parent's Advisory Board in addition to both the Enfield Girls Scouts and as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. Martha was a stay- at-home Mom and in her later years greatly enjoyed her employment at Steiger's in the dress department, Staples, and was both a dedicated volunteer and employee at St. Joseph Residence. One of the highlights of Martha's life was winning the WTIC Bob Steele contest for a trip to the Moscow Olympics. Of course, the Olympics were cancelled in 1980 but Martha and Sky were gifted instead with a trip to Ireland, which was a great highlight in their life together.

Martha's family will receive relatives and friends for a Prayer Service on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m., at Browne Funeral Home in Enfield. The burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Turners Falls, Massachusetts at a later date this spring.

Donations in Martha's honor can be made to St. Patrick's Manor, 863 Central St., Framingham MA 01701 where she was lovingly cared for during these last three and a half years.
