Mary Howarth Obituary

Mary T. Howarth
October 5, 1935 - February 11, 2025
Mary Theresa Howarth, 89, "Mazzy" of Brewster, MA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb.11, 2025, with her family by her side. She was born on October 5th, 1935 in Montague, MA, to Colen and Georgianna (Bessett) Tenney, the first of two daughters.
Mary grew up in Bolton, CT, graduating from Manchester High School, class of 1953, where she met the love of her life, Bob, on a boat ride around Bolton Lake. Mary and her beloved husband, Bob, married on May 29th, 1954, in St. Maurice Chapel, Bolton, CT, and settled and began raising their family in Windsor Locks, CT, in 1955, becoming active in the community as a girl scout leader and finance director for the town of Windsor Locks.
Her career included working as a travel agent at multiple travel agencies, enabling her to enjoy years of travel to many popular travel locations as a benefit. Her hobbies included sewing, cake-decorating, country round dancing, and playing pinochle with friends through the years.
Mary and Bob enjoyed annual Cape Cod family vacations, and cherished many years of camping together as their family grew, continuing well into their retirement, when they relocated to their favorite place, a retirement home on Cape Cod, in the summer of 1998.
She was a lifelong fan of Ted Williams and the Boston Red Sox, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Boston Celtics.
Mary had a green thumb, enjoyed many years of gardening in her yards, and passed on the love of gardening to her children.
Mary was also an avid book reader and crossword puzzler, and dog lover, raising many as beloved pets over the years, none more loved than her last dog, Katie.
Always quick to smile and laugh, her positive-spirit was a joyous family bond you could always count on when needed, and will be missed.
In addition to her husband, Robert, to whom she was married 70 years, she is survived by her children, Pamela Howarth, Robert Howarth Jr. and his wife Claudia, Nancy Raccone and her husband Mark, and Alan Howarth and his wife Liese; her grandchildren, Tyler Howarth and his wife Ashley, Travis Howarth and his fiancée April Menard, Meghan Hargrave and her partner Dave Shannon, Rebecca Raccone, Kristen Raccone, Stacey Raccone, and Joseph Howarth and his wife Clara; her 7 great-grandchildren, and her sister, Linda Archambault and her partner Dave Traczyk; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends
A Private Burial at the Brewster Cemetery on Lower Road in Brewster, MA, will be handled at a later date, by Chapman Funerals & Cremations, Blute Chapel, 678 Main Street, Harwich, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Alzheimer Family Support Center, 2095 Main St., Brewster, MA 02631.

My heart goes out to the entire Howarth family for your loss. I remember well the many times when I was in high school and came to your house on Taft lane. She always welcomed me with kindness and grace. I'm sure she had a life well lived and was lucky to have all of you in it. My sincere condolences for your loss.
