Mary Stone Obituary

Mary (Wirzulis) Stone, 64, of South Windsor, beloved wife for 35 years of the late Kenneth Richard Stone, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Hartford Hospital.

Born in Hartford on Sept. 28, 1949, daughter of the late John T. and Dorothy (Gill) Wirzulis, she was raised in East Hartford, was a graduate of East Catholic High School, Class of 1967, and had lived in South Windsor for the last 38 years. After graduating from high school, Mary worked for the former First Federal Savings in East Hartford for many years. After staying home to raise her daughter, Mary, she returned to work and took a position at Electro-Methods in South Windsor where she had worked in several departments over the last 32 years. As a younger woman, Mary enjoyed bowling and camping with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed campfires and relaxing in the great outdoors. She was a talented cook and enjoyed trying new recipes and entertaining for her family and friends. Mary and her husband enjoyed traveling and going to country western concerts for many years. In recent years, she enjoyed reading, relaxing with her family and friends, and spending time with her daughter and granddaughter.

She leaves her daughter, Heather Lynne Gness, and her husband, Christopher, of South Windsor; a granddaughter who she cherished, Cheyenne Gness; a sister, Sally Brown, and her husband, Philip, of West Hartford; and many friends who have been very supportive through her illness and the loss of her husband.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, Dec. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, South Windsor.

Mary's family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1463 Highland Ave., Cheshire, CT 06410-1216.
