Melanie L. Welch

Melanie L. Welch, 48, of Tolland, beloved wife of David Welch, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, after an arduous and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Oct. 25, 1965 in Rockville, daughter of Richard and Naoma (Harlow) Sundgren. Melanie was a member of the United Congregational Church of Tolland and a church school teacher. She was active in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and she taught English as a second language at the University of Connecticut to Korean students. She enjoyed science-fiction, movies, camping, and South Korea.

Besides her husband David, she is survived by her children Marc, Amy, Michael (Ryan), and Sarah Welch. She also leaves her brother Craig Sundgren; her sister June Mita and her husband, Michael; her sister-in-law Jacqueline Whittaker and her husband, Wayne; her brothers-in-law Doug Welch, Max Welch, and James Welch; her father-in-law, Max Welch and his wife, Sue; nieces Kathleen Mita and Kimberlee, Allyson, and Hillary Whittaker; and her nephew Benjamin Usher, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Saturday, July 12, 2014, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road (Route 195), Tolland.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2014, at the United Congregational Church of Tolland, 45 Tolland Green, Tolland. Burial will be private.
