Michael Bernier Obituary

Michael J. Bernier
November 29, 1955 - May 11, 2024
Michael J. Bernier, 68, of Ellington, CT, passed away on May 11, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family. He courageously battled cancer for 10 years.
Mike was born on November 29, 1955, in Hartford, son to the late Joseph and Eva (Paradis) Bernier. He graduated from Hartford High School and pursued his Associate Degree in Accounting at Manchester Community College. He married Dianne Jacques on June 5, 1982, and they had been married for almost 42 years.
Mike opened his own accounting firm shortly after graduation. Later on, he continued using these skills managing his rental properties that he ran with his wife and son. He dedicated over 25 years to Transworld Systems Inc. as a sales manager.
Mike loved spending time with his family and friends at Crystal Lake, where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He watched UConn games whenever he could and followed their season closely. He loved playing his guitar and singing his favorite songs, especially music from John Forgerty and Gordon Lightfoot. Mike rode motorcycles for years and enjoyed taking his Harley out and sharing memories and interesting facts about local places.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Dianne Bernier, of Ellington, his children Michelle Bernier of Manchester and Joseph Bernier of East Hartford, his dog and companion Sadie, his siblings, nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Eva Bernier, his brother John Bernier, and his in-laws Napoleon and Simone Jacques.
Mass will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Assumption Church, 27 Adams St. S, Manchester, at 10 a.m., followed by the burial at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Ln., East Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at https://giving.mskcc.org.

Dear Diane, Michelle, and Joe, I am with deepest sorrow saddened by Mike´s passing and the tremendous loss to your family. Mike touched so many lives and I knew he was always there to help and took pleasure in seeing others doing well. When we were at the Boston office of Transworld Systems in Woburn Massachusetts, we called ourselves the Boston Barracudas, he was King Cuda! He earned that spot! He always lived, worked, and lead by example. I love Mike and my life, and the world has lost a very deer person. Seeing Mike before he passed was a blessing, and difficult. I asked him why he hired me all those years ago. With that Mike smirk he replied," I don´t know." I also asked when we all get to wherever we are going would you mind hiring me again, I may need a job! Again, with that Mike smile I saw him nod. A difficult and special moment between two friends saying goodbye for now and I can´t wait to see you again buddy! God bless! Love Stephen

I enjoyed getting to know Michael after he and my sister were married. He was smart and witty, and a great family man; a joy to be around. One thing that stands out most about him is how well he could relate to kids, and they loved him. My two children spent a lot of time over there when they were young, and he made so many happy memories for them. And whenever my grandchildren came to stay at my house, they always asked to go over to visit Uncle Michael and Aunt Diane. As soon as he saw the kids, his eyes would light up and he was always so welcoming. They truly enjoyed the time they spent together. He was a good father and role model to his children too. He taught them so much that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. As so many others will, we will miss Michael, and he will never be forgotten. We are fortunate to have been a part of his life.
