Norma McCann Obituary
Norma C. McCann
Norma C. McCann, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
She was a devoted mother to her five children: Sharon Swihart, Karen Stankis, Vity Stankis Jr., Amy McCann and Thomas McCann Jr. Born on November 7, 1930, Norma was the eldest daughter of Nathan and Mildred (Fenn) Curtis. She grew up in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and graduated from Glastonbury High School with the Class of 1948. A standout student in office skills, she received several awards during her school years-skills that served her well in her career. Over the years, Norma worked in various offices across Connecticut, California, Maine, and Massachusetts. Among her many roles, her favorite was working for the Maine Mariners hockey team in Portland, Maine. She later retired in 2010 from New England Door Closer in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Norma met the love of her life, Thomas McCann, and together they shared 60 wonderful years, building a beautiful life filled with love. She treasured the simple moments with Tom-especially their drives through the countryside or trips to the beach. Some of their most cherished memories were made vacationing on Cape Cod and at York Beach, where they enjoyed exploring lighthouses and sharing fresh seafood. Norma will always be fondly remembered as the family's "anchor." She loved staying connected by phone and sharing updates on the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her deep love for each of them-and her commitment to keeping everyone close-helped bind the family together across generations and distance. She also will be remembered for her love of animals, especially kitties.
She is survived by her five children and her loving daughter-in-law, Christy McCann. Norma is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren-with one more on the way-her sister Betty Silva, sister-in-law Rene Curtis, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas, her parents, her brothers Nathan (Buzz) and Jim Curtis, and her sons-in-law Gerald Swihart and Alan Cox. The family would like to thank Care Central VNA & Hospice, Inc. for the support and care that was given.
Calling hours for Norma will be on Monday, July 28, 2025 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield, CT. Interment will follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester, CT at 1:00 p.m.
