Norman Coulter Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Norman R. Coulter, who died on Feb. 1, 2023. Norman's 99th birthday was Jan. 30, 2023.

Norman was the beloved husband of Arlene R. Coulter for over 70 years. Norman was born in Suffield in the home where he proudly lived and raised his family. He was the son of the late Samuel J. Coulter and Abby Gillette Coulter.

Norman's life was truly devoted to agriculture. He and his brother, Lawrence, owned and operated the Coulter Farm for over 45 years, marketing quality milk and deep pedigreed, productive Registered Holstein cattle. Upon Lawrence's death, Norman farmed with his son, Roger. Norman received several agricultural awards for milk production and quality milk. Norman proudly received the Conn. Century Farm award in 1998.The farm was awarded the Ct. Dairy Farm of Distinction Award. Norman was an outstanding advocate for agriculture and a true steward of the land. He strongly supported the Ct. Farmland Preservation program. Norman and Arlene sold the development rights on their productive farm. Norman was proud to serve as officer in several different agricultural organizations.

In addition to his wife, Arlene, he leaves his loving daughter, Deborah Coulter-Fusiek, and her husband, David Fusiek. David worked with Norman for over 40 years. Norman was proud to see Debbie, David, and Bethany continue his legacy with the farm. He leaves his son, Roger Coulter, of New York. Norman was the proud grandfather of Kevin Coulter and his wife, Darcy, of Pennsylvania. Gramps was an inspiration, mentor, poultry and dairy coach, fishing buddy, gardener, and so much more for his granddaughter, Bethany Fusiek, who also mourns his death. Norman leaves two great-grandsons of Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his brothers, Malcolm and Lawrence Coulter, and sister, Dorothy Flatt.

The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Caleb Hitchcock Health Center for their excellent care. The family also extends gratitude to Mclean Hospice program for their skilled, compassionate care.

Norman requested a private service.
